This was my first amazon.com software purchase for a system I knew little about. I inherited an old 'Performa' 6115CD with all kinds of keen software but several corrupt system files. The several week long search led me to your vendor, who had the best price. He was very patient with me, and made sure I got the right version. I made an excellent investment; the system installed and performed flawlessly!
Thanks, amazon.com and vendor aliand_books!

Ubuntu's Latest versions are currently in the 8's but if you want a great intro to Linux {Thats the complete operating system Windows DOESN'T want you to know about ;)} Then this is a great place to start. I've run Linux in my home for 8 years now and have wanted for nothing. Matter of fact a few of my Windows pals want to know how they can get some of MY features as even the new Vista still doesnt have what years old Linux versions came with standard.
This is the easiest backup program that I have ever used. If you are looking for the best solution for backups, this product is for you. Highly Recommended!
Retrospect Workgroup Backup protects files on any 20 networked desktops, notebooks, or a local server. Retrospect Workgroup Backup supports backup of a Mac server as well as any other Macintosh computer on the same subnet.
Install Retrospect Backup along with a storage device. Install included client software on the other computers, and backup everyone over the network. As soon as they connect, notebook users are protected automatically. Installation is quick and easy--Retrospect Backup immediately recognizes your storage device and automatically loads the appropriate driver.
Retrospect Backup's EasyScript wizard builds a complete backup schedule for you. Individual users don't have to copy files to the server, as Retrospect backs up everyone automatically. Incremental backups save time and media. Equally important for data security is having more than one backup set. Retrospect Backup supports incremental backups to multiple complete backup sets. Retrospect Backup makes it easy to restore individual files or an entire hard disk, including the registry, in a single step--even after incremental backups. Other backup applications make you restore a full backup and then each incremental backup session, one by one. After backing up, Retrospect rereads the original files and compares them to the stored files, byte for byte.

It was what I expected but it didn't work on my computer. Good fast delivery.
This software is very easy to use. It has a user friendly interface. If you share a computer with other people you should use this product to protect your privacy. It cleans your pc up to Department of Defense standards. This prevents others from using a software to undelete whatever personal information that you have deleted. If you have an old operating system such Windows 98, ME or Windows 95 you really should get this software. It is also a good idea to use it before donating your old computer to make sure all of your personally identifiable information is completely deleted. I have used this product and can say that it really does work.
I'm an old mainframe programmer who needed to get up to speed on Unix fast. My current teammates have been working with the mainframe for 10+ years and have no knowledge of Unix whatsoever. I was looking for a concise and short introduction to the UNIX "world" that could motivate my teammates to get started on their own. This course was the answer. For those looking to get "bang for your buck" to learn the basics, look no further.
There are several noteworthy features in Windows Me, even if no one feature really stands out. First, we liked that Windows Me boots noticeably faster. The reason is that the underpinnings of DOS have been removed from this new release. One result of this absence is that you can no longer boot to a command window as in Windows 95/98 without special diskettes. (Also, don't expect Windows Me to support older hardware that uses virtual device drivers written in the days of yore.) Of course, you can still run DOS command sessions within Windows Me.
Besides removing legacy support for DOS, Windows Me adds several other improvements to reliability. The most important is that every 10 hours or so, the operating system automatically backs up its system files (just like Windows 2000), thus reducing the chance of your system being corrupted. Windows Me also borrows the TCP/IP stack (the low-level code that connects to the Internet) from Windows 2000, meaning you should have slightly more reliable networking connections. For laptop users, you can also hibernate a session and restore it quickly, another feature borrowed from Windows 2000.
The personality of Windows Me also changed a bit for the better. Principally, you can take advantage of personalized menus, which show the most frequently accessed menu choices on the Start bar and hide the others. (This feature is also based on Windows 2000, but don't worry, you can turn it off.) Internet Explorer 5.5 is bundled here; so is support for working with compressed Zip files, which no longer require an add-on.
Microsoft has been touting the multimedia capabilities of the new Windows Me. There's a built-in video editor for video files, and the operating system makes it easy to connect to today's video cameras, scanners, and digital cameras. But without built-in support for Real Media files, these features probably won't please everybody.
So what's the verdict on Windows Me? Provided you have recent hardware, there are some good reasons to upgrade, but most users will want to stick with their current OS. If you are buying a new system, by all means choose Windows Me instead of Windows 98. Even though it isn't a major release for most users, Windows Me shows that Microsoft has done its homework when it comes to improving the computing experience for consumers. --Rich Dragan
Using Windows is now even safer with new features like System Restore, which quickly restores your computer to a previous working state, and System File Protection, providing built-in safeguards to prevent accidental deletion or overwriting of key system files. This operating system even updates itself by automatically downloading the latest enhancements from the Web.
The included Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and Outlook Express afford a rich and full Internet experience. Take advantage of simple desktop-based tools to import photos from scanners and cameras, then organize, print, and share them. Newly enhanced support of home networking includes step-by-step directions for setting up shared Internet connections, printers, and other peripherals, with full support for Ethernet, HomePNA, and wireless networks. Need help? Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition now offers a centralized location to find comprehensive and easy-to-use help--the Windows Help Center.
Notes:
Running a PC operating system is somewhat unusual on a Macintosh but is often needed. Macs do not deal with .exe and .com file extensions and for good reason. They are the ones that most often carry the virus which plagues the windows industry. Virtual PC for Mac with Win 2000 is good if you desire a network setup due to its compatability with Win NT 4.0.
This version (5) will run on both OS 9 and OS X but remember that it requires alot of RAM and still runs sluggish when compared to the Mac. If you have to be in the PC spectrum but want the ease of owning a Macintosh, then this is a good choice.
Ease of installation is a standout here, with a simple and graphical installation wizard. (The featured Mandrake distribution has scored points with the Linux community for ease of configuration and its compatibility with Red Hat.) For those users who want to run Windows and Linux together, a version of PowerQuest's PartitionMagic allows you to create a Linux partition. (You'll need to upgrade to the full version of PartitionMagic to install onto Windows NT NTFS partitions, however.)
The version of Linux with this package is the K Desktop Environment (KDE)--an attractive desktop manager--with an option to use GNOME (and other desktops). KDE, with its slick, intuitive look and feel, is arguably a good choice for the Windows user tackling Linux for the first time. This package features a number of utilities for text and image editing.
A standout feature here are the five electronic books included on a CD-ROM of "extras." These titles include three well-known texts on Linux, KDE 1.1, and GIMP from SAMS "Teach Yourself in 24 Hours" series. RedHat Linux Unleashed and Que's Using Linux Special Edition round out the available information. Armed with these electronic titles, which add up to some 3,500 pages of information, any newbie can master the ins and outs of the Linux OS.
In all, this package is a good choice for anyone who wants to run Linux on a Pentium-class system. Expert users of Linux who want to tweak every setting probably won't appreciate the ease of installation offered here, but many potential users will, making this product a good choice for getting up and running with a powerful version of today's Linux. --Richard Dragan
This set stood up to my expectations almost perfectly: it is very clearly expressed work. It does not overwhelm with technical details and does not press too much. Simply awesome. Easy to follow, good instructions, just right for me. If you're not yet familiar with UNIX, make sure to work your way through one of the better introductions to UNIX. Assuming you know what a mouse is and have some computer saavy, you should be able to learn Linux from this reasonably easily.
I procured my copy of ubuntu directly from canonical about 2 months ago, after a few weeks of messing around with it I decided to wait for the lts release. the program itself is awesome, its efficient aesthetically pleasing and most certainly superior to windows. Unfortunately 7.10 is notorious for having issues with propreitary hardware from HP Pavillion laptops. I fought with my broadcom drivers for about 2 weeks trying to get them to work. and the nvidia. In the end I was still having issues with various files and hardware. 8.04 was just released thursday and it is phenominal. i had no problems logging on, I didn't have to enter exceptions to the logon script and i didn't have issue with the graphics or sound. But most importaintly I didn't have nearly as much trouble with the hardware in my computer.
The best thing about Ubuntu is that you have a dedicated group of people on [...] that walk you through any issues you have with the system. I truly do look forward to joining to assist as soon as I can get a hang of the system, they have been truly helpful everytime i've had an issue.
Canonical states that they want to bring the Ubuntu philosophy of goodwill to others to the software world. They have succeeded admirably with this operating system. And as for Mr. Jobs and Mr. Gates, keep an eye out because Ubuntu is superior to both mac os and windows by leaps and bounds and is free as opposed to 200.00 a release.
I am very computer literate, however I had no clue on how to use Linux. Linux may well be the successor to Windows. Its design, based on Linux (a multi-user, multi-task operating system), was from its start multi-tasking and multi-user. And I decided it was time to become much more Linuxsavvy. Now I'm surfing around dizzying hierarchies of file structures, able to get to the root and back again and make and edit text files. I've become a bigger and bigger fan of Kubuntu and Linux. This set is superlative.
I've only had ViaVoice for about one week now, but I have a pretty good impression of it. At first, what I was using it, I thought that it wasn't doing very well. It was making a large number of mistakes, and I was spending a lot of time correcting them. However, IBM seems to have done a good job, since I find that I'm correcting the program less, even after just one week. I probably use it for about one hour a day. The interface is actually very good, and mostly shows that they did try to write a Mac program. What finally convinced me that this program was great, is a test that I did earlier tonight. I read several paragraphs, and then figured out just how fast I was dictating to the software. It turns out, that I've been dictating at 150 words per minute.
However, there are a couple things wrong with the program. At least a couple times a day when using it, SpeakPad just stops responding. And I have to save my work, and restart the program. Not deadly by any means, but rather annoying. I also find that the in line correction that ViaVoice uses can often screw up. Sometimes when I'm correcting it will start inserting text randomly or cutting out text randomly and I can't figure out a pattern, and it's obviously a bug. However, for the most part it works. I have a repetitive stress injury in my wrists, and even though I'm spending time correcting, I still think that I'm probably getting at least 70 words per minute, which is about how fast I can type. The speed of ViaVoice is not an issue, at least on my Cube. It's plenty fast enough to keep up with my dictation.
And just for your information, I dictated this review using ViaVoice, and there were six mistakes (that I noticed). =)
ViaVoice for Mac OS X is designed to take advantage of Mac OS X's Aqua interface. ViaVoice for Mac OS X sustains the Aqua look and feel throughout, including the new Command Center, redesigned Voice Center, SpeakPad, and preferences control. This latest version offers faster enrollment, allowing users to more quickly train the system to recognize their speech. ViaVoice's Outloud Text-to-Speech technology in U.S. and U.K. English allows users to listen to e-mail and other text documents that the computer reads out loud. An expandable, user-customizable, command-and-control feature allows you to speech-enable common tasks. ViaVoice for Mac OS X even features specialized vocabularies for computers, business and finance, "chatter's" jargon, and cuisine.
I teach Graphic Communications and Printing Technology at the Center for Arts & Technology in Phoenixville, PA. I am currently working on a presentation for the International Graphic Arts Education Association and will be featuring your product in my presentation. As more and more teachers in my building see what I'm capable of doing with your tool, I have no doubt that they too will be ordering your product quickly just like I recently did. I'm also helping one of my students develop an introductory level class on CD and it's been a great learning experience for both of us. He is learning just how difficult it can be to create a learning module for a beginning student and I'm finding out just how much he knows about his computer which is quite a bit I'm happy to say. ScreenRecord is a great advancement for hands-on education like this.

Simple, Fun on the computer, you can view the photos in their natural glory, each one labled for identification & learning of some of the comos' most beautiful objects. Easily can use this software as a screen saver, automated slide show, wallpaper, and even as an "image puzzle", just by following the simple, clear Installation instructions. The simplicity and ease of setup of the software, certainly made this a good purchase for the money.
